Nylon Hiking Pants
Buying a pair of nylon hiking pants is a smart idea if you plan to do a significant amount of hiking in the future. Well designed hiking pants serve several significant functions that are frequently overlooked when planning outdoor adventures in the mountains or along forest trails. While some people think that they can throw on a pair of cotton denim jeans, grab a backup, and be off, experienced hikers know there are tricks to having fun and being comfortable, especially on longer hikes or camping trips that last more than a day. When out on the slopes of a mountain, pants become shielding, wind-resistant accessory that helps keep your legs warm. One might think that nylon pants can't do that, but you have to remember that you are already hiking and blood is circulating faster through your legs. The light weight of the nylon means you aren't lugging extra and unnecessary weight along, and any extra weight that can be avoided is a plus. Most hiking is done during the year when the days are nice, and wearing heavier clothing on a trail can actually keep you TOO warm, even when it's not necessarily hot. That brings us to the next important feature. Nylon pants protect the skin. Those of us who work in an office all day or don't get a chance to frequently get sun on our legs appreciate the fact that long pants are the ultimate sun blocker (not to get to far ahead, but some pants are convertible to shorts). You won't need to worry about forgetting to apply sunscreen as long as you're wearing your pants. But remember that not only do nylon pants protect against sunburn, nylon is strong, durable, and tear resistant. Walking through brush, thorns, and other local fauna without long pants can follow up a weekend with scrapes, pokes, and gnarly scratching of boil-ridden skin from nasty poison ivy, poison oak, or sumac. But fortunately for most hikers who journey along main trails, the effects of faunal skin irritants are unlikely. Nylon pants have still another advantageous - They are breathable, like cotton, and they dry quickly when they get wet. Cotton, on the other hand, becomes heavy when wet, taking forever to dry. Hiking in wet cotton can chaff the inner thighs, too. Just walking through wet grass or brush, or getting caught in a Spring rainstorm can mean adding heavy weight with cotton. But the nylon does not absorb that much water, if any at all (water repellent can be applied prior to hiking). If nylon pants do get wet, body heat will dry them out in no time. Wine Backpacks |
